MapOut

This is so much better than any other app I have used during cycling holidays. None of the bureaucracy of navigating Komoot menus for starting or updating tours. It’s just simple and quick. Can do all planning and route updating offline. Very user intuitive. Great maps. Good visibility during the ride. Low battery usage.

Fijne zeer handzame app. Werkt snel en is zeer nauwkeurig en daarom erg goed bruikbaar voor navigatie bij slecht zicht.

I just wish the track currently being recorded were a different colour to previous recordings.
And it would be cool to be able to click on POIs and look them up on Google Maps, Wikipedia, etc.
Edit: just wishing for a dark mode icon for iOS 18!

Beautiful maps, very clear hiking overlay, took some practice to draw tours with my fingers on a little screen but now very easy to do. I tried a lot of those apps but most of the time I use this one.

Terribly silly and unclear App.
Loading a GPX file to this App does not work at all and drawing in your own route/trail taken angel patience. Expensive compared to its competitors. Wasted money.

Easy to use, no irritating subscriptions, no unnecessary features. Doesn’t distract. Makes exploring any area anywhere in the world a joy. It is my go-to navigation app when hiking or cycling. Works even flight-mode to safe battery and no incoming calls! Also great to browse and dream when you can’t sleep.

The map is very nicely rendered compared to many other apps in this category. Sometimes I wouldn’t mind a little more contrast - especially in bright sunlight. But generally the map is very readable with some nice attention to details. For example “tours” (what MapOut calls recorded and planned tracks) gain some transparency when zoomed to a certain level so that the underlying map can be seen.
In the Netherlands, all the cycle routes and knooppunten are shown clearly.
One disappointment is that when I pan the map it takes a second to draw which is a shame compared to other apps which have the tiles already rendered so there’s no delay after scrolling. It’s better if I “flick” the map rather than drag, but still a bit odd to see this behaviour in 2023.
Search is limited to place names and streets. Forget about searching for categories like “groceries” or “bike shop”. Even searching for a specific numbered street address or postcode isn’t supported.
I had to refer to the manual to workout how to draw routes, but it works well now that I’m used to it. The manual mentions a long press gesture to place waypoints but this doesn’t work for me since long press is zoom out. I’d actually prefer on-screen zoom buttons for one handed use.
Unfortunately there isn’t any kind of syncing or automatic backup of your tracks. But It is possible to make a manual export to gpx.

MapOut is top of the bill. The maps are 100 reliable and the userinterface vers good. I did several wraking and cycling tracks in the Netherlands, Spain, Italy, France, Switzerland and Germany. Always top. The feature of creating own tracks with vertical route information is super

Good and easy to use app for planning your cycling routes. Would be nice if it were possible to directly save or import GPX-files without using e-mail.

Very nicely organized app to navigate and work with your own tours and waypoints. Very easy to import and export data. No need to ever look for a better application to work with GPX files!
Still hoping for some more options for GPX files with several tracks. Now such a file is handled as one track when - for example - Hide all other tours is choosen in the menu. I never got an answer on my suggestions by email.

Download the map pieces you need and you will have all the data, very detailed. Send your own GPX file, search for campings and even the routeplanner wil find a nice path for you, avoiding the highway.

Easy to use gps-app for hiking or just taking a stroll. Usualy I upload predefined .gpx routes that I plan to do. But a lot of times I use it as a trail recorder when I'm just wandering.
Map downloads are free and blazingly fast.
The only thing I'm missing is an Apple Watch companion app.

Ik gebruik de app nu al zeker 4 jaar om te wandelen en te hiken. Superhandig om vooraf een route te kunnen maken en een inschatting te krijgen van het stijgen en dalen en de moeilijkheidsgraad. Door van de voren de olattegrond te kunnen downloaden is er niet tot nauwelijks data nodig tijdens de wandeling. Dus zelfs zonder goed bereik werkt het uitstekend.
Super tevreden!
