Tandem: Practice Languages

Before you subscribe for a premium account it showed a really high amount of people that use the app in my area. Now that I have a premium account it only shows a few. I think this way of giving incorrect information is scamming.

I still remember that I made a lot of international friends on tandem during the COVID, some of them are still even keeping in touch with me. It really brings me a lot of beautiful memories.
I’m currently studying a new language right now, I want to find someone who is native in that language. So I downloaded tandem again.
I was so disappointed when I opened it.
It automatically sets the language you want to learn to English. If you want to just change it or add one more language, you HAVE TO get a premium subscription in the app. This is so crazy, I understand how hard to stay profitable now, but I really feel like I’m being forced to subscribe.
If I don’t get a premium subscription, I can’t even use it. This is so disappointing.
And there are also a lot of cringe people on tandem now, I think I might never use it anymore.
It’s really sad to say, my good impression of this app has been completely ruined. It’s only been about a year and a half since I last used it, and tandem has changed so much.

Im automatically out of Tandem and when I try to log in it gives an error like ‘something went wrong try again later’

Hey folks! Cannot send a message to anybody, web client does not work, my profile picture is gone and I cannot make a support request neither via app nor web browser (submit button at the support page does nothing). Can you shed some light here? Thanks!

Im using Tandem Pro, all my messages are gone and I can’t send new ones please fix it soon as possible

This app was great two years ago until they decided to try to monetize the hell out of every user and adding ads and paywalls to even the most basics features even to complete your own profile. No wonder why users are fleeing towards newer apps.

I used to love this app to meet people around the world and learn languages, but now it’s full of ads and restrictions. Even the simplest functions require payment, which makes it frustrating and useless. Please improve it and bring it back to how it used to be, and maybe allow us to add more than one language at the same time. Right now it feels like a downgrade instead of progress.

I payed for the app and i really enjoyed it while practicing daily and even making friends world wide.
To my surprise i got banned a little later without any warning or knowledge of what happened.
I mailed the service department, without any response.
I lost not only my money, but a lot of cool connections, and a nice way of my daily practice.

This used to be such a good app. Nowadays to have a nice experience using it you have to spend money on it. The amount of ads increased in a crazy manner and you have to pay to learn more than one language sadly.

Tandem used to be an incredible app, so good that I had paid for a lifetime PRO upgrade.
They suddenly decided to delete that option and only make monthly subscriptions available, completely removing my “lifetime” PRO upgrade without warning + adding ads to EVERY aspect of the app. (Yes your chats will have ads too)
Beside those horrible changes which makes it near impossible to navigate, they made the UI more confusing and moved otherwise FREE features behind a paywall.

You will receive a warning when you do a fake check of a person who doesn’t know about a city which is just an hour drive to the location where they have put in the App. There is also no way to delete your Audio messages. Profiles on Tandem insist on Audio messages instead of Audio/Video call, probably collecting your voices to sell to AI companies.

Ive been using this app since 2015, with lots of love. But since like half a year I haven’t used it anymore. It’s just awful. No more chats, everything is behind a paywall. You have destroyed an amazing app. Damn…

I must wait always 7 days. Why? I downloaded 7-8 times again again again 7 days. Really so bad application!

I used Tandem more than other language exchange apps because I could put my two native languages without paying but now we’re restricted to one… Please change that back, that was your strong point :’)

Tandem doesn’t do enough to protect pro-Taiwan people against hatespeech from people from PRC. I have done multiple reports and tried to contact Tandem, but they don’t change.

Used to really like this app but they now implemented so many ads that I feel like it became useless.

Long time ago it was a nice app to meet new people and learn languages but now it’s ugly. A bunch of ads after almost every tap. Basic functions like translation is paid (i think app for learning languages should have it for free, that’s why we use it bc in another case any other social media will work). Ads in everyone’s gallery. This is simply disgusting. People couldn’t find a better way to monetise and decided to choose the ugliest one.. disappointed, don’t have any desire to use it anymore, not gonna pay just to remove ads…

If you are using duolingo right now and you have a basic understanding, start using this app to learn your language. It literally thinks of everything. and it is very fun to use
