OutDoors GPS – Offline OS Maps

Fijne app! Ja, voor meer detail (dus voor wandelen en fiersen) zul je detailkaarten moeten kopen - maar voor ons is het dat waard en ze zijn op meerdere appararen te gebruiken na aankoop. Wij gaan regelmatig naar Schotland en voor vertrek zet ik wandelroutesroutes in de app. Je kan ook makkelijk zoeken naar routes die anderen al hebben geladen en deze dan downloaden.
In de auto ook erg fijn om te zien waar je bent als je aan her toeren bent.

I used this app on a walking tour through the Lake District, with an OS 1:50,000 loaded on it. Those are beautiful maps, and on an iPod they are easy to use. For location purposes I have an external Bad Elf GPS which feeds the location services of the iPod through Blue Tooth. So, on the beautiful map image you see exactly where you are, without internet connection, in the middle of nowhere.
That said, I encountered an issue where I needed a connection just to start the app up. By now that issue has been solved by a responsive support team.
I also had entered our route on beforehand, via the website, and that works well.
A few things would make the app still more useful to me, and that's why I give only 4 stars now:
1. The app supports only portrait mode on the iPod
2. The map is not rotatable, the direction of going is not shown
3. It is not possible to open an external .gpx file in this app.
As to the last point: my Bad Elf GPS records my routes. I can get them as .gpx files on my iPod. But I can only view them in this app by first going to the website and uploading them there, which is overly complicated and even impossible if there is no internet connection, a situation that is quite common on walking holidays.
All this said, it is a very enjoyable app, and a very convenient navigation aid, not only for walking, but also handy in the car.

Als je inapp een kaart loopt is het detailniveau super voor hiking. Inapp aankopen zijn wel prijzig.

Deze app is beperkt tot de hoofdwegen en dus niet geschikt voor wandelen en fietsen. Voor autokaart is het prima. Outdoors worldwide heeft een grotere detaillering voor fietsers en wandelaars . Deze kaart laat geen stratenplan zien
