OpenVPN Connect

Since the latest app update the iPhones and iPads cant Connect to my synolgy VPN server.
All running on either 17.1 or later.
Cliënt app gives;
Error message: Peer certificate verification faillure.
Notting added to the server log since the app updated.

After the update from 3.3.4 to 3.4.0, connection to the openvpn server on my synology router rr2600ac is no longer possible.
This is a very bad version.

Sadly no AppleTV app, i hope they release this very soon or share some details about it’s development plans yes or no.

I experience very slow connections, but only on the iPhones. Not on iPads. About 2-3mbps versus 100+ on the iPad. Switched to an alternative client and the problem was solved.

There is an issue with inactivity, where OPN doesn’t close the connection after the (configured) timeout oocurs.
I have a idea what is the problem, but no idea where to file a bug report.
I think the problem is caused by a dialog/alert in the App that tells the user connection has problems. While the app awaits useruser input, iOS is not notified that the connection is closed (status => Settings => VPN => Status = Connected).
Once you click on the dialog, you can see iOS changes the status to “Not connected”

Although it’s a little slow and lacks modern features, it does what it’s supposed to do just fine when it comes to security and stability.

Not reconnecting after unlocking… Problem occurs since OpenVPN app update.
OpenVPN 3.3.2: problem still exists. It won’t reconnect after switch from
WiFi to 4G / 4G to
WiFi after unlocking phone.

VPN works, but that’s about it.
When trying to deploy a .mobielconfig with VPN on Demand, you end up in a world of pain. No log, no idea what to do and what not. Without a clear error you have no idea where to look, other then your “gut”.
No idea where to get support, and openvpn there faq doesn’t bother to date their documents. So you have no clue wetter this should work on 15.x or not. A “simple” example (that should work), would make this all a bit easier.
Pity.
BTW not only to blame OpenVPN, Apple also makes zero effort to streamline this process (the console log also gives zero hints).

After switching airplane mode off it now frequently doesn’t reconnect to VPN. This airplane mode switching is necessary because of an iOS bug that let existing connections bypass the VPN connection.

This app is quite disappointing; it doesn’t provide a persistent VPN; what is the use of a VPN if you have to remember to start it up each time you want to go on the net?
Also, when I ask it to disconnect, it somehow fails to instruct the server, thus producing authorization failures.
Finally, you can’t select safe networks; this is particularly handy when on the home network, where VPN is not available.
All of the above was perfectly possible with the (commercial) app of the Encrypt.me service, so why is it not in this app?

I live the app and use it on all my iOS devices.
I am now using a full tunnel to bypass some limitations on my work network.
But when at home this limits my speeds.
Can we get an option to not connect to VPN while I am on my home network just enter the SSID’s I use at home and just not connect to VPN. But with any other 4G or WiFi network do connect automatically.
This would be a very welcome addition to this awesome piece of software! And much appreciated! Please add this option.

As other reviewers also mentioned, the app enters a loop, trying to reconnect when picking up the phone. This happened after the latest iOS 14 update. I sent an email to iOS (at) openvpn . net but that is made so degeneratively unfriendly that you have to first create an account before they even look at your message.

Negative, it has NOT resolved after the latest iOS update! I have to manually turn off and on because it gets stuck. You said the same to others. Looks like you’re brushing this off.

Looks like iOS update 14.2 of week 44/45 solved it for now. Rating changed from 1 to 3.

I have to reconnect as soon as screen has been locked since 3.2.2. I am sure this will be solved but very annoying for the time being

Not sure what it was but looked the same as the other issue. But it seems gone now.
Edit: on my work WiFi connection still freezes after iPhone sleep very regularly almost all the time when waking up it frozen no data. Have to disable and enable VPN to get dataflow again.
Edit2: yeah still happens on WiFi home and at work. Disable seamless tunnel and everything works fine.
Edit3: yes seems to be working normal on 14.1 with seamless on. Great!

After updating mij iPhone and iPad both seem to have problems staying connected after unlocking iPhone or iPad. Please fix this issue. 5***** for sure when this issue has been solved.

Don’t update to this version! VPN on Demand seems to be broken. 3.1.2 is working well for my clients, this version does not!. A normal VPN profile with same settings does work, but they need AlwaysOn functionality. Please provide a fix for this problem.
