Obsidian - Connected Notes

When my previous note app literally made text disappear on iPad, I needed a change. Enter Obsidian—and what started as desperation became genuine excitement.
A few months in, I’m amazed at what this app offers. The recent Bases feature combined with Obsidian Web Clipper has transformed how I capture and organize web content. Being able to filter and group information by source feels incredibly natural and powerful.
The mobile experience is exceptional. Using Obsidian on iPhone and iPad is genuinely enjoyable—the refined design just works. I’ve paired it with Obsidian Sync for privacy and security, and I appreciate being able to choose where my data lives geographically.
Yes, there’s a learning curve. Community Plugins help you customize everything (I needed one for image sizing), though I’d love a shortcut for the calendar view on iPad. Minor details in an otherwise stellar experience.
My take? Obsidian is more accessible than it looks. Give it a month. Shape it to your thinking, not someone else’s workflow. It’s worth it.

What a lovely product and app. With the latest update, it got a lot faster. I think the team has the right soul and spirit and is continuously working on making it better. Now with LLMs, it's so important to have local files, and I think Obsidian is the best one to do it with.

Unfortunately, as others have already pointed out, you cannot select a folder to store your vault, like e local folder on your iPhone, or a pre existing folder with your vault(s) on iCloud. If you wanna use iCloud you MUST create a vault from the app which will be of the type “application library” and thus not visible in your Mac’s iCloud Drive main folder.

I was finally able to get out of Evernote thanks to Obsidian. There’s many things I love: the native markdown formatting; the *excellent* plugin for Chrome to save a copy of a webpage; the amazing amount of plugins to tweak almost everything, and so on. There are annoyances too: the editor is not great (I often use Sublime Text instead, then copy & paste); the interface is awful; etc. But the advantages largely compensate - hopefully there will be plugins to take care of these not-so-good aspects!

I love the flexibility of Obsidian, you can enhance it aa much as you want with plugins. But at its core it’s just a wonderful note taking app which is free to use, is privacy-focused, is local, and uses backlinking. Have been using it for years and will be using it for years

After a business conflict we noticed that with the right data manipulation the local storage was copied and access to all private data leaked out through external services. Be aware of such manipulation and possible vulnerabilities in plugins

simply amazing and very very powerful note taking app that you can use for a wide variety of cases. it’s honestly the best in its league.
i encourage everyone who reads this to try it out if you’re doubting it and see for yourself. do keep in mind that it has a learning curve if you’re not familiar with the markdown format but it’s well worth your time to learn it

image sync does not work and I have no time to check all twenty million options and settings

I store my Obsidian files in a Syncthing synchronized folder meaning I can view/edit my notes on any device.
I have Syncthing working on my iPhone so I can see my obsidian files but this app doesn't let me open them. For some reason, I have to open/edit files stored within the specific obsidian folder this app creates. There is no support for other folders.
Seems like an unnecessary restriction to encourage people to pay for the premium sync feature.

PLEASE fix the loading screens. It takes up to 10 minutes to close the app and fully reopen it! Loading files.. loading plugins… loading vault…
And even the leading screen is stuck the first 60 seconds! All frozen. After 1-2 minutes the horizontal bar starts moving. Another 5-10 minutes later the 0 new files since I used the app the last time are loaded. PLEASE FIX

Nice app but still doesn't support to sync ur vault to ur sync server of ur choise or self hosting capability!

The performance and the usability of the text editor is really bad. It's slow, it doesn't provide native feel, it's hostile to users even in the source mode. It's basically unusable even for the smallest things and it's the core feature of the whole app.

Does not start, if allowed to sync to iCloud Drive. Just hangs on black screen. iPad same story (desktop app is great though!)

Is it possible to remember the preferred size and other setting when attaching images? Or at least select several of the at once (or better both) Otherwise it's hardly usable.

For a text editor it's really hard to edit text sometimes. Specifically text selection & text swipe actions which conflict with system behaviours

The quick action pull down only works when a note is open. Would be nice if it could also be called when in main menu or in graph view.
