Lingvist: snel talen leren

Waar andere apps blijven hangen bij “papa en mama” of het niveau van “dos cervezas”, duikt Lingvist gelijk het diepe in.
Dit kan even afschrikken maar eenmaal in Spanje verbaasde ik niet alleen mijn spaanse schoonfamilie maar vooral ook mezelf met hoeveel ik van hún gesprekken begreep en hoeveel ik zelf kon zeggen, soms begreep ik zelf niet waar de woorden vandaan kwamen, het werkt!

I’ve been using the app for about 2 years and have the 10 year subscription. I’m learning Dutch. I must say that at first it was fun and taught me a lot of vocabulary but now I feel stuck. I am at 77% completion since January and the app refuses to show me new words. I keep repeating the old ones, and it’s getting boring.
The system for recognizing synonyms and similar words is not great - it often doesn’t distinguish between diminutives, e.g. “huis” and “huisje”, and could at the very least explain when each word is more appropriate, for example, “aanraden” and “aanbevelen”.

Very very deep language skills, way beyond what you could ever learn from Duolingo. Where the latter keeps you happy about progress for years until you realise you’ve not progressed your language knowledge, Lingvist takes the harder way of actually teaching you the grammar. Note however you are going to need a healthy amount of self drive as it often throws in nearly half the words it asks you as new words. If you are going for a language you half know and improve, this is great. If you are going for a language that is very alien to you, perhaps do duo for a year and then try this. I tried doing a completely alien language and miserably failed.

I started with learning Spanish when downloading the app and direct after the first ‘course’ I was not able to continue.
The learning was nice, simple and effective. I have no experience with other apps but since I am annoyed I can’t continue learning means I like it and want to experience more.
After the first course I can’t continue and have to start my 14 days trial with giving in my credit card to sign up for a year. I can’t select the free trial period to sign up for a month. After all I don’t have experience in online learning and maybe I’m done after 3 months, so want to be able to try couple days more and then subscribe for monthly payment. Too bad that’s not an option in combo with a trial period.

A good app, but Dutch functionality is limited and there are mistakes with some phrases.

As a native French speaker I can tell there are loads of mistakes made in this app. Better choose something else to learn French

Comparing to other language apps and prices, this app is rather expensive for what it has to offer.
I ended up using it as at this point of learning my main concern is expanding my vocabulary and this app offers just that.
One thing that would improve this app immensely is if they added a function of clicking on a word in a sentence to see its article as it is easy to forget the article but that doesn’t necessarily mean you don’t know the correct way to apply the adjective :)

I’d say it’s just as great and if not, better. The only big negative thing about it is that you just can’t use it after your first day. You need to pay the €80 if you want to continue.
I enjoy learning languages just for fun and I wanted something new because I’ve been using Duolingo for a long time now. It’s good, but I don’t see where grammar is being explained, at least I don’t see where in the Danish course.

The Dutch course is very poorly done, there are no synonyms at all, there are many errors, no one responds to error reports

Ik heb echt het gevoel dat m’n woordenschat toeneemt. Dat de zin uitgesproken wordt is echt goed voor de uitspraak. Ik vind het jammer dat de link met de spellingscheck weg is gehaald. Ik wil met name leren lezen en spreken, correct spelling vind ik niet belangrijk. Dus mijn voortgang gaat nu langzamer wat frustreert en het minder leuk maakt. Dus als je deze optie zelf aan of uit kan zetten, zou super zijn! Verder hebben we geprobeerd het abonnement te upgraden naar een familie plan, maar dat ging mis. Omdat er op hun website zo goed als niks hier over te vinden is, was het lastig op te lossen en hebben we het uiteindelijk maar opgezegd. Heel jammer want de kinderen willen ook graag, maar ga voor hen geen individueel plan kopen. Ik snap ook niet waarom de info hier over compleet ontbreekt online. Ontmoediging? Conclusie: erg goed taal app en zeker 5 sterren en niks anders dan lof, als deze 2 punten worden aangepakt.

Anyways, been using it for a month and I feel like my vocabulary is growing very quickly by the day!

upd: one deck only & computer generated voice narration. Spanish version was much better.

App doesn’t mention at the start that you need to pay to do anything meaningful with it. Completed the long initial assessment test to learn german and then suddenly without any prior warning you get paywalled.
I recommend against supporting this predatory practise.

I would love this app if they added slovakian. I really want to learn it so i can visit my girlfriends family in slovakia but there are no good apps that can teach you that language. If they were to add slovakian i would 100% rate it 5 stars.

I haven’t really had the chance to try the app yet, but it certainly spiked my interest. I’m doing the French test at the moment, but I have to write the word “C’est”. I typed it correctly, but the app needs me to write a straight ‘, which I can’t do with my keyboard or the keyboard in the app.

I’ve used this app last year, to practice a bit of french. Back then it was usable without getting a subscription immediately. Since my first langue of interest (Arabic) is not presented, I went along with another app and started paying for that one.
Now coming back after a year, to check it out again and consider daily usage again, it changed a lot in the meantime. It looks more elaborate than before, but I cannot really tell, because after a short test, I immediately have to give in to a trail with the risk of getting billed (the bill not being peanuts). This risk of getting pulled into an app that im not yet sure I will use often, is a no go for me. Sad that this is the set up now.
