Calm

I enjoyed this app for a long time but after the latest update the scene sound is no longer working in the background so no longer working properly.

I used to love this app. It was great and had amazing stories and meditations and helped me calm down in stressful moments.
Unfortunately it’s been taking minutes to load the app itself and than several more minutes to load any other page than the home page. This has been happening already for months. Recently, it also randomly started crashing or reloading in the middle of sleep stories, making me more on edge than relaxed waiting for the story to suddenly be cut to silence after which I have to reload the entire app, which doesn’t work as it just crashes again.
And the biggest reason the app is ruined for me is the use of ai. I find is absolutely appalling that an app designed for thoughtful moments and relaxation uses ai slop. Ai generated stories, ai generated videos of animals, and ai generated covers for meditations and stories. Ai needs to go away from this app. It’s ruined it completely and made me everything but calm.

I love Jerome Flynn’s sleep stories. My favourite is a night in Shakespeare’s London . I’d love if he were to make more!
Having said that, I want to point out two things:
- The time for anything to load on the app takes incredibly long. Especially loading discover page or the profile page. It sometimes takes up to a minute to load and it’s not my WiFi or data bc it’s been like this for months and it loads slowly too at different places than home.
It’s getting really irritating, please fix it.
-the second point is the biggest reason for 2 stars: I just saw an ai generated ‘art’ image for a story called ‘the whist lesson’. And I am absolutely disgusted seeing ai on calm.
I once saw an ai generated sleep story which already kinda threw me off but seeing ai ‘art’ just feels wrong. Calm uses such beautiful images and art made by real humans, and to than see this piece of ai generated slop is disappointing. I expected better from calm. Please don’t use ai ‘art’. It ruins everything

Still love the app, but after the most recent update some sleep stories automatically start again after they’re finished, which wakes me up and defeats the purpose… I can’t find any setting to turn this off, so is it a bug?

Calm introduced a second app: Calm Sleep, and since then no new sleepstories have been published (3 weeks now) on the Calm app. I feel left out as a loyal customer.…

Wordt zomaar zonder medeweten geld afgeschreven terwijl je afgemeld hebt. En dan nu nog 15€ duurder. Nu Dubbel opgelet en wederom afgemeld. Echt krankzinnig duur voor een app

Really good for children and adults meditations and sleep stories of all kinds it’s got everything.

The idea is great and so is the amount of content. However, there are far more American voices than British and their accents are often so strong that they can be incredibly off-putting to non-Americans. There are Brits in the sleep stories, but in the rest (daily and thematic things, etc.) it’s mostly American. Especially Tamara’s childish, inauthentic sounding voice I find grating. A pet peeve is that whenever there’s an update, there are no developer’s notes but only the same boastful description of Calm itself time after time - I didn’t even know that was allowed. Lastly, another pet peeve: a few photos used for sleep stories are incorrect, for example the one of the Flying Scotsman. I’ve tried to be helpful and tell them, but they refuse to change it, displaying that mentality of Americans who think they know Europe better than Europeans. It’s such a shame because certain aspects of the app’s content that can truly help people and you can tell they’re working hard on it. But an app of this price should cater to a broader audience instead of assuming that everybody likes American(s).

Ik heb me aangemeld voor gratis kennismaking, maar met die gratis week kun je bijna niets. Bijna alles zit op slot. En waar ik bij kon komen, sprak me niet aan. Maar nu komt het, ik heb de klantenservice gemaild om mijn proefabonnement per direct te beëindigen, maar in 4 dagen krijg alleen maar 2 mails dat ze ermee bezig zijn.
Echter, na de gratis week gaat de betaling voor een jaar meteen lopen en daar heb ik echt geen zin in… wordt vervolgd!

App works great! (In a previous review i said that the sound suddenly stopped working, that was a fault on my part and it’s been fixed!

Bij openen van de app staat de taal blijkbaar op Chinees of Japans, iets met Aziatische tekens die ik niet herken of kan lezen. iPad staat gewoon op NL, vreemd dus en niet aan te passen, want geen idee wat er staat

Please bring back the option of browsing meditations by topic. Can’t find my favourite meditations anymore

I think that this app is wonderful

Thanks Calm team. I love the daily calms with Tamara. I’ve been listening to them almost every day for the past months and I feel a lot better after the sessions!
On the critical side: please tone down the in-app gift advertising. After every session I need to decline offers from Calm for me to draw in others. Fine if you ask this once in a while, but at times this functionality seems to be the primary function of the app. It’s all about balance ;-).

Calm helps me build awareness, patience, compassion and confidence. I’ve been having a guided meditation before I go to bed for 4 years. I’m so glad that I started using it and kept on doing that.

The app is really nice in terms of content, design and UX.
However, I would love to see some technical improvements to make it live up to its potential:
- stuff like mood rating icons are really pixelated and basically stock images, which really takes me out of the whole calm design
- scrolling briefly lags when more content is loaded outside the screen
- the loading spinner is really obnoxious and I hoped it would be a calming animation
- overall, it’s clear that the app is not native, which is something hard to tackle, but very worthwhile to make the app more snappy

This app just charges and keeps asking to subscribe! Fraud. I wanted to get calm but this got me in rage mode
