Bad customerservice! A pity for Mate is fantastic.

I purchased a subscription and sent a query to help resolve why I keep getting a message that I dont have a subscription. Their follow up has been slow, and then it suddsnly stopped. I have got zero value from this since I paid for a 1-year subscription.

Uitstekend vertaalprogramma. Ik zou het prettig vinden als je de vertaalde tekst automatisch kan plakken.

I have been using this app for years. It is quickly giving me translations when needed. What I dislike, is that is needs to connect with a Google server, but that’s all I can “complain” about. As far as I can see the translations seem correct.
As a user, I don’t like developers switching to subscriptions. However, I can understand why developers are making this step. I give a big compliment to the developers who take customers into account who bought the application (much) earlier. They retain lifelong access to the application and do not have to purchase a subscription. A great example to others!

When I bought this app I didn't need to register, and I would not have bought the app if I had to. I do not care for your unified business imperium, nor can you expect me to. As a customer I want to retain my privacy. Or return to me my money.

This review is about the Safari extension, rather than the full app (which I’ve not used much so will avoid commenting)
When the latest Safari was released with extension support, I was interested in returning to using it on my iPhone. I had switched to Chrome as I need the built-in page translation support for a language unsupported by Apple. Mate appeared to be the only extension that provided automatic webpage translation, so I paid the €29,99 thinking it’s not an expensive one time purchase based on how much usage I’d get out of it.
Unfortunately, it really misses the mark, to the point that I’ve just added a Siri shortcut to quickly open a page in Chrome if I need it translated.
The UX is clunky and buggy, rarely detects a page needing translation automatically, despite setting the option repeatedly, which means I have to tap the URL
Bar, tap the Mate extension, tap Translate this page, wait, then Tape “translate to English”. Sometimes it won’t translate at all, even with the translate button present. It tends to break a lot of javascript items in the page and the translation tooltip gets in the way more often than it helps: breaking scrolling, cluttering the screen, or preventing me from clicking content behind it.
If there was no other option I’d say Mate’s flaws are somewhat tolerable for being the only way to quickly translate webpages, but when the Chrome app is free and has almost no issues at all, the price and quality of this app really is indefensible, at least if your primary purpose for using it is the Safari extension.

Mate is a great translation service that comes with a Safari extension as well as a Share sheet extension for quick translations on the fly.
However it’s just shy of getting 5 stars as when you try to translate longer paragraphs of text with the Share sheet extension, the UX isn’t so great. Perhaps a tab bar to switch between the original language and translated text would work better for this

Great app but I always fall back to Google Translate to take advantage of camera translation.

Op mijn iPhone doet de app het goed en daar ben ik tevreden over. Ik kan het echter niet installeren op mijn Apple Watch 4, terwijl ik daar juist behoefte aan heb. Als die ook op mijn Apple Watch werkt, zou ik vijf sterren geven.

Vertalen is moeilijk voor applicaties, zo is mijn ervaring. Deze applicatie is in dat opzicht helemaal niet zo slecht, ik ben er zeer tevreden over. Ook hier kom je bij het vertalen van hele zinnen/teksten wel rariteiten tegen, maar tot nu toe weet ik vrijwel altijd wel te begrijpen wat er had moeten staan. Heb m daarom ook op mijn Mac geïnstalleerd.
