All older versions are not locked, but the optimal experience is not guaranteed below version 8.
If you have a pre-version4 installation of Death Rally, you will automatically unlock the full game in version 4. Also, if you have a Game Center account with achievements from older versions of Death Rally, the full game will automatically unlock using that same Game Center account. If it does not automatically unlock, please tap the 'Social' button in the main hangar view and then 'Restore Career'. You will then also get your progress restored according to what data is in your Game Center account.

Bought it in 2011, played it through couple of times. However i cannot play it anymore on my newer device.

To be honest it's a really fun game, but there's no end. I reached 192 percent(how is that even possible?) and destroyed the adversary, and I never got any cutscene or what so ever that told me I won. But even though I'm already ranked god of gods I still enjoy playing it. But since the goal of the game was said to be destroy the adversary, isn't it a little odd there is nothing to tell you well done after you beat the strongest opponent?
Nonetheless a really good game. Keep updating!

I still love this game. I started a new game on my new iPad air, but for some reason it keeps crashing every time I attempt to open the game. Changing my rating to two starts till I am capable of playing the game again.
