Wire • Secure Messenger

Since I’ve downloaded te app, I immediately got an invite from men to connect. It’s quite disturbing as I need to ignore them all and these invites come in weekly approximately 3 or 4 a week.

I recommended Wire to my family. Since the latest update however Wire cannot be used on my iPadmini4 and neither on my daughters iPhones (6s) because they can't be updated to iOS 16. The app sends us all the time back to the appstore for an update.

De app was al matig omdat je geen onderschrift/tekst bij foto’s kunt sturen, en ook geen bundel/album foto’s in één keer. Ook kan je niet zien wie een bericht ‘geliked’ heeft (of andere emoticon), alleen hoeveel mensen.
Sinds vanmiddag wordt de hele app niet meer ondersteund door besturingssystemen onder de iOS 16.4. Kan de app met een oudere iPhone (duurzaam gebruik, alle andere apps werken nog prima!) niet meer gebruiken, kan er niet eens meer in dus ook niet oude berichten meer bekijken of bewaren. WAARDELOOS!

Op iOS en iPadOS al tijden geen notificaties bij ontvangst van berichten. De ontwikkelaars daarover gemaild, maar behalve een ontvangstbevestiging al lang niets meer gehoord. Ik zie in mijn omgeving vijf anderen die hetzelfde probleem hebben met iOS/iPadOS. Hoewel het een veilig medium lijkt te zijn heb je daar niets aan als je geen seintje ontvang dat er een bericht is.

Wire is a respectable chat service. Works very well. Good financial system: organisations have to pay, free for individual users. Hopefully the original design will be restored soon.

Wat een fijne dienst, deze Zwitserse, veilige berichten-app. Zeker na het kijken van de docu THE SOCIAL DILEMMA realiseerde ik me dat we met z'n allen echt van Whatsapp af moeten, want Facebook is een monsterlijk bedrijf.

Voor verbetering vatbaar:
- de vormgeving is prachtig en strak, maar doordat alles wit is, is het overzicht weg als je een hele reeks berichten achter elkaar ziet. Bij whatsapp zijn berichten die je zelf stuurt ingesprongen en hebben een andere kleur. Dat is niet per se mooi, maar wel duidelijker.
- het antwoorden op berichten gaat niet makkelijk: je moet lang op een bericht drukken voordat de optie 'reageer' verschijnt. Antwoorden met snel swipen van bericht is makkelijker en sneller
- het toevoegen van contacten voelt niet veilig
- opslaan/backuppen van berichten kan niet
- met ster markeren van favoriete berichten kan niet
Graag verbetering van deze dingen, dan krijgen jullie 5 sterren

Mooi, prettig design. De meest privacyvriendelijke messenger die er is. Beter dan Signal. Encrypted. Geen trackers ! Een groot voordeel is ook dat je niet persé een telefoonnummer hoeft op te geven.

It was awesome, but since the last update it doesn't load sent pictures anymore.

I had been testing apps and looking for a replacement to mainly WhatsApp for a while as I grew tired of mainly American based companies abusing my data protection rights, and having little respect for privacy. Wire offers a great balance between functionality and respect. It’s really simple to get started, the app has a great interface, and the desktop app is also very good. It takes a tiny bit of time to get used to it but nothing drastic. Calling and voice messages also work surprisingly well. I appreciate the fact that aesthetics were considered as well as functionality, no need to go ugly to have a good private life. Overall I would really recommend this app for anyone, whatever your intent is, as it fulfills any need you might have for a messaging app, with the added benefit of having a strong privacy focus.

Werkt op multiple devices en op pc! Het enige wat mist is een berichtstatus die aangeeft dat het beticht gelezen is door de ontvanger! Dan 5 sterren waard!
Edit 21 januari - sinds laatste update werken notificaties niet (goed) meer. Mijn vriendin heeft hetzelfde probleem.

I have extensively be testing pretty much every what’s up alternative out there for over six months, and I can’t confidently say that Wire isn’t only the most secure (and no, not just because it’s Swiss) but also the best designed and most intuitive to use for everyone. I started using it privately and I’m now also migrating my company‘s internal communication to Wire for Teams.
The only thing I may be missing is the ability to share your life location for a predefined amount of time, but then again on the other hand I completely understand why that doesn’t have the highest priority for an app that’s focussed on privacy first

Het hoeft niet op naam of telefoonnummer. Maak eerst een account via een computer, en download dan de app.

Tegenwoordig zijn er vele chat apps, vaak met (video)bel functie. In veel landen is WhatsApp 't meest populair, maar dat ligt meer aan kuddegedrag dan z’n eigenlijke kwaliteiten. Sinds de overname door Facebook en opstappen van de originele oprichters, is 't een kwestie van tijd voordat Facebook ook WhatsApp grondig gaat datamijnen. Ze hebben er immers bijna $20 miljard voor betaald!
Wire is van opzet tot uitvoering anders. Het is geheel open source, dus volledig transparant. Er wordt geen metadata bewaard, laat staan verwerkt door ‘s werelds grootste privacyschender. Het is van A tot Z krachtig versleuteld en beveiligd, zodat vertrouwelijke berichtjes ook zo blijven. Een telefoonnummer als registratieadres mag, maar een e-mailadres kan ook zodat je niet je privé nummer hoeft te delen. Het draait volledig onafhankelijk op smartphone, tablet, computer of zelfs web en als je meerdere apparaten benut, synchroniseert het alle chats keurig zodat je op elk apparaat het gesprek kan oppakken. Geluidskwaliteit met bellen is uitmuntend. De app is stijlvol en overzichtelijk vormgegeven en wordt voortdurend doorontwikkeld, met regelmatige updates. Tenslotte biedt Wire allerlei handige en leuke functies, van grappige gif animaties (Giphy) tot 'n instelbare timer op speciale berichtjes, zodat ze na verloop van tijd automatisch verdwijnen.
Een essentieel verschil is dat Wire volledig in de EU wordt beheerd en 't bedrijf gevestigd is in Zwitserland. Dat betekent ook deze (privacy)wetgeving en neutraliteit. Het bedrijf genereert inkomen uit abonnementsmodel voor bedrijven; Wire for Teams. Dus samengevat: Wire is een absolute aanrader voor iedereen

Als nog niet al je vrienden gebruik maken van dit veel beter beveiligde whatsapp-alternatief, nodig ze dan uit!

Wire is a nice looking messaging app that is rapidly developing. It has great features but some flaws as well.
For example. Wire should fix the open search for contacts option. It doesn't feel safe at all. You can see who your contacts are connected with and they can also see who you are in contact with (have in your Wire contacts list). Lose that feature! Especially not compatible with the privacy claims.
Design: include a picture of the contact in the recent chats screen and add quick search of chat (eg bij pulling downward). Maybe incorporate 3D Touch (also on the app icon on homescreen of the iPhone), and put the pics of the sender to the right in the chat screen, so it'll be more of a thread, easier to browse through and give more oversight.
Another thing is: Wire needs the incorporation of selecting and sending multiple pics at once. Selecting and sharing photos and vids should be under the same button.
There are too many buttons if you need a slide over for the ping and location sharing options. And not all of them work all the time! Sometimes I find myself pressing the gif or voice message button five times before it finally reacts! :(
I like Wire's basic idea though, and it's super that it uses a very good encrypted protocol and is open source!
And they are getting clearer about metadata retention and handling.
Also, I like the share extension incorporation. Way to go guys!
I'll keep track of the developments.
Keep up the good work, but keep working to make it attractive for the critics. You need them on your side.

Very smart and sleekly designed app that has all possible functions without a visual overkill.
Startup time could be faster, and it would be handy if the keyboard languages would change along with the different chats.
But all by all, very good job people!

Mooi, prettig design. Chatten gaat prima. Een groot voordeel dat je niet persé een telefoonnummer hoeft op te geven. Notificaties werken nog niet best op de iPad en de gebruiksaanwijzing ontbreekt, verder heel goed. Please go on improving, Wire.

No need to keep using WhatsApp. Wire has it all. Great look and feel and also awesome audio quality!
