I enjoyed hearing the original Jangan soundtrack and seeing the original characters, such as the herbalist, smith and horse salesman.
However, the resemblance to the original game is far from sufficient to activate true nostalgia - and nostalgia is what you’ll need to make this game succesful.
Also, when I realized you can’t turn the cosmetic armor cover off, it was the straw that broke the camel’s back. It’s just a way to cut down on development cost- I get it - but it makes all your other work not worthwhile. I can’t stress that enough. Most gamers enjoy seeing visual progress in their character, such as a cool new cauldron or shield. Also, gamers enjoy starting with humble looks. It’s not the epic looks by themselves that matter, it’s the progression, the feeling of achievement. You’ve taken that away by making players start with some epic looking skin that covers your humble but proud armor progress. Nobody cares about a default epic looks, because it’s default. If it’s default, it’s not epic.
I’d suggest taking a look at Maplestory mobile, which in my opinion did a better job at remaking the original version, because the gameplay and graphics are more similar. Sure, it has autoplay, but I don’t think autoplay is the real problem.
Less = more by the way. Better to remake a small part of the game accurately, than to rush it.
