ChessKid - Schaak v. kids

It used to be a simple kid friendly chess app. But some monitization features they keep adding make it worse than the pre v10 versions. First the notation is removed, which my kid used to learn notations so he could follow chess YouTubers. Instead we got avatars instead of there those notation were placed on the screen. It looks nice, but it makes it less instructive.
Now after every game they add a dark pattern after each game to review, which only 1 per day is free. And the other two buttons are greyed out, looking as it those are not an option. And the app uses more energy than it used to. The iPad get warmer and the battery drains faster, which can be verified comparing the Battery Usage in iPadOS settings. ChessKid uses just as much energy as some much more graphical intense games. The difference in battery usage between using the Chesskid app and the playing the web version in Safari makes it very clear the app is not efficiently using resources. My kid plays against online players, so it's not like a chessbot engine is doing crazy calculations all the time. Or is it? It is nice they do add features that were previous only possible on the web version, like tournaments. And overall it does look nicer than before. It is just they also get rid of some great features of the previous app.
Please do not place the confirm button for accepting a draw in the same location as confirming a chess movement. Some players non stop spam the draw, so during scramble it is easily too easy to unwantedky accepting a draw instead of confirming a move.
Also please fix the app adjusting the sound volume when using music apps . My kid likes to listen to music, and has no sound turned on in the Chesskid app, but opening the app changes lowers volume, and when multitasking to change a song the volume will go back up, and when going back to chess it will go down again. That's a bit annoying.

I like it but it looks like a copy for me from chess.com and for people like 2900elo. It is really fun to challenge kids and then get a lot of ELO.

But you have to pay money to get more bots its better when you get not real money but money from the game if you win

Het is echt een hele leuke manier om schaken onder controle te houden, maar je moet betalen als je meer wilt leren…

All teaching is in English audio, while the menu and everything else is able to be put in a different language.

Het is een hele leuke app maar je kan bijna geen video’s kijken of puzzels maken zonder de upgrade naar goud en zonder dat kun je ook niet tegen alle robots spelen

Games don’t even work. played a match with well over 2 minutes on the clock, my opponent had 20 seconds and i was up 9 points of material. Suddenly the game stops and i lost because i had no time left… what a joke.

Je kunt tegen heel veel bots spelen alleen als je inlogt kun je nog veel meer maar ik mag van mijn ouders niet inloggen

I was just watching tv and my son raged at the puzzles so he through the iPad on the floor i dont recommend this game

Ik denk dat het een leuk app is maar ik zal graag willen dat er geen limiet van het proberen van je login want nu weet ik het en kan ik het niet doen

ANNA MAIL vindt ChessKid heel leuk, omdat: Het is voor jongens en voor meisjes, voor kinderen lijkt het net op een spelletje, en je kan je avatar veranderen en er een krijgen, je kunt vrienden uitnodigen, en je hebt toornooien, en als laatst: Je kunt spelen tegen mensen uit de hele wereld! Dat was het zo een beetje…. O,ja! Je kunt tijdens games of toornooien ook chatten!
Eigenlijk gewoon het echte schaakleven, maar dan online, en voor kinderen!

Leuk spel jammer dat er nog geen grote wetstrijden zijn en het zou leuk zijn dat als je een spelletje wint dat jw dan muntjes krijgt en dat je dan bijvoorbeeld daarvan een nieuw level kan kopen

Er worden vanzelf steeds punten afgeschreven. Erg frustrerend. Ook valt de verbinding regelmatig weg. En er kan maar 1 persoon per gezin op de app, sneu voor broertjes en zusjes. Hierdoor kan ik mijn dochter niet enthousiast houden voor deze app, terwijl ze zo graag schaakt

I came here to write a negative review because after purchasing a subscription, our app was constantly crashing during play. But I just saw on this page there was an app update today, which says it solves the issue. I can confirm it does seem to be solved after testing for a few minutes.
What I’m hoping to see in the future:
* Translations to other languages (Dutch in our case, or Russian)
* Our son is disappointed that the pro-robots (which you must pay for) aren’t shown in the top right during gameplay

Website is great, but app a bit flaky. Crashes all the time (often when casteling)
