This game is well worth its price. It may borrow heavily from Rayman Origins/Legends in terms of gameplay elements, but that is hardly a bad thing.
The graphics look absolutely amazing, there is more than enough variety in gameplay, the difficulty curve is balanced very well: this game is easy to pick up and play, yet challenging during boss fights, though never unfairly so. Every time you die, it feels like your fault, not the game’s fault. There’s also a fair bit of clever puzzle solving.
The controls are sharp and even though the touch screen controls are some of the best of any iOS platformer, the game really shines when you pair it with an MFi controller (which is fully supported).
It’s not perfect though. The checkpoints aren’t always placed logically, causing you to replay multiple difficult sections. The two-hit lifespan can get challenging, especially during boss fights, and the differences between weapons seem more visual than practical and could have affected the gameplay more (like the tornado caused by the hammer).
All in all, Oddmar is the closest you can get to playing Rayman Legends on your iPhone, and that alone is more than enough to justify the €5,49 price tag. Add in best in class graphics, sound mixing, a bit of hilarious voice acting and truly solid level design, and this is a game that everyone that grew up with Mario, Sonic, Crash, Spyro and Rayman has to play.
